So I'm taking Computer Servicing and Computer Maintenance in the same year (you're not suppose to take computer servicing until after computer maintenance, but my counselor fucked up, and the teachers let me stay).

Anyway, the first few weeks we assembled our computer and tested it. The following weeks up until now, it's just been presentations of computer hardware and history.

Our semester exam is this week, and our test is this:

Format our computer that currently has Windows 7 installed, and install Windows XP with the given CD's.

This class is ridiculously easy :\

Oh, and get this: Our previous teacher quit for a better job, and we got a new teacher, and let's put it this way. She came in with 0 knowledge of this, and she's not only teaching us, but she's teaching herself.

I told her if we could install something like Arch Linux where we'd actually have to somewhat know our computer for drivers and what not. Her response:
No, we're not installing Linux! all the big guys said don't install Linux because it's evil...

It's not all great, but for crappy computers that we're just installing shit, it's a good learning experience.

careful here, I'm not talking about linux here. I'm talking about open source as a business model.

Lets put it this way:
The only grudge I have is that basically everything is open-sourced so linux *USUALLY* never sees professional programs such as most Adobe products like Photoshop on linux. Yeah, there's substitutes, but they're not decent enough to use in a real work environment.

Open source is a bad business model, true, but who says computing has to be a business and not just a public resource?
Linux is by far the superior OS type, but it's not commonly used in mainstream computing because it's bad for business.

superior for what?
it is relative to what your focus is. windows focuses on selling and not on performance. If they wanted performance they would still run in command line.

if you want the public resource, who will make it if that persons cant get anything by it other than satisfaction. Maybe academics, maybe rich people that don't need money for their time and work, but not anyone that values time and work.
---
for consumers open source might be really good. its free after all.
for developers and businessman it is the worst nightmare ever and it becoming popular is a problem because consumers are expecting more open source things to come up. Since there is expectation it will eventually become reality but partially to what someone can do with no expectations of profit. this ruins market making the possible solution made with business intention do not take place since the target consumers become less even though the ones that left from the group are still unsatisfied.
