demuxing a mkv just gives you another mkv, and googling just gets you FREE MKV CONVERTER DONLOD NOW bullshit so what the fuck do I do

I use Xilisoft converter
it uses CUDA to accelerate the conversion of multiple videos in parallel.

MKV and MP4 are container formats that don't necessarily say a whole lot about the video format itself.
EDIT: In the past I used virtualdubmod + extensions to extract the video and audio from MKV files, and additionally convert the files in the container to a video format better suiting my taste.

Right but mp4 can actually be imported to most video editors and they extract it themselves.
