Having moved onto a 64-Bit system, i now got to know the frustration of the good old

I couldn't attach the debugger to this process! You could try to open the process using the processpicker and try that! If that also doesn't work check if you have debugging rights. |
message.
After some searching i found out that this seemingly is an issue about the 64 bit systems (though the application is 32 bit; still wonder why especially this old one randomly doesnt want to work), and that kernelmode debugger seemingly doesnt want to work for a 64 bit system. What i also read was that the only chance to get kernelmode rights is to use the DBVM cheat engine provides. And what i read about that one is:
- that its a vm windows is booting INSIDE
- that its a big security threat
both being points that basically make me think "its not worth doing that for a single stupid game".
So is there any other way to debug that program without using such things? Why does this random game prevent me from debugging it anyways, while so many others work properly? Does it have some power-rights because its from microsoft? and what shall we do with the drunken sailor? It's sort of bugging me and i really would like to know the answers before i die tomorrow.
greetings and have a nice apocalypse

Only other method for kerneldebug is to install a 32-bit windows os
But have you tried the veh debugger interface?
Also, make sure it's not an online game
As for the "security threat", you have already accepted cheat engine to run as admin. That means that basically all your security has already been bypassed

Tried to use VEH Debugger (settings, debug options i suppose), but it didnt really work.
Well, it was finally able to attach the debugger to the process (there you go, annoying error message ^.^); its not all to usefull though. the find out what reads/writes to this address functions do not list any instructions (though i can cleary watch the values changing in the cheat table), and ocassionarily will cause the game, and then the cheat engine itself, to crash. I could't test if breakpoints work yet though as i dont find a position to actually set it to (as the find out what accesses / writes do not yield any results).

wonder if thats a question aiming at the infamous paragraph in the faq or if it actually has to do something with the debugger itself. i actually never had problems to at least attach it to online-ready games.

i feel like it would be way easier to abuse a vm that is basically activated all the time your computer is running than a program that is only active for a limited amount of time (which is the time im running it).
quote-answers ftw
