Cheat Engine

OK I'm a total n00b at this stuff but I wanted to make a few trainers and cheats for a couple of games. One of which being Space Marine.

Before registering I had spent some time reading through the various forums trying to find some answers and the post I found here (can't post the url cos new user i guess) suggests that it seems my first choice of game is a pretty complicated one which could explain a little bit of my problems.

So anyway what I do try to is find my shield values unknown value. decreased increased etc and I seem to get it down to a few addresses and when I freeze one the bar seems to drop momentarily when I get hit and instantly jump back to full but after a few hits my hp drops and I end up dying.

I would assume that as freezing the code seems to have a visual effect on my shield bar I am at least on the right track but it seems I'm missing a lot of stuff. this is where I call myself a n00b. I haven't really done much hacking since the amiga days and playstation where a simple memory freeze was all you needed.

Their was a cheat table on the forums I found and tried but it crashed my game so I guess it was for a different version. Mines cracked by skidrow 1.0.61.0 if that helps any. Any help or pointers would be much appreciated.

Another game I tried was torchlight. Figured I'd try something simple like infinite mana but again a simple memory freeze didn't work, so I tried doing some of the tricks I'd picked up in the tutorials and replaced a code with nothing which somehow ended up making it so everything on screen was slowly losing health and dropping dead around me so it's another game I could use some help with but I think if I can figure out space marine I'll be able to suss out torchlight myself.

So can anyone help me out with space marine. I seem to be able to find an address for shields and health but seem to get lost after there I tried some of the steps in the tutorials but I seem to be stuck or ended up crashing the game.

I've ran the tutorials a few times and it gets to a point where I know what to do but I don't really know why and I think that is part of why I don't know which steps I should be taking.
