because some programs or games when i minimize them they'll crash or freeze...

...Or play in windowed mode. You may need a 3rd party tool to force windowed mode.

or just set up hotkeys if you're doing increased/decreased/etc scans

If these programs are crashing/freezing when you alt+tab into CE then your computer is probably going to take a nice performance hit if you run the game in windowed mode or set up dual monitors so I'd say hot keys are your best bet
