|
|
The DVD burner/player for my desktop is not reading at all.
It also makes a race car-type noise like the CD is spinning super fast.
This leaves a circular scratch on the bottom of the CD/DVDs.
Afterwards if i leave it in there it makes a repetitive sound like its going to load.
Any help would be appreciated. _________________

it's as old as the pc, 1-2 years old max, barely used.
So if i swap with a new drive and it's still broken would that mean it's some other problem? _________________

Yes the motor is going out if it sounds like a jet engine. Might I ask what brand this dvd drive is? I'm personally still using a pioneer dvd/cd burner thats over 5 years old and plan to get a new one when upgrading mobo. This one is still IDE. Just want to stay away from bad brands or models.
Unless I can get a ide to sata converter for this? |

If you want to test the drive itself, go to Nero's website and look for Nero SpeedTest. It is a utility that normally comes with the Nero Multimedia suite but you should be able to download it separately. That will tell you if something is arry with the drive.
Or you can go the route of replacing it because a good CD/DVD/Blu-Ray Combo Drive would prolly run you around $50-75. They have dropped drastically here lately. |
