I have a ASUS x54C which I purchased for a cheap price.
The manufacturers website says that since the 2GB ram is soldered to the motherboard, the maximum ram that the laptop can read is 6gb. Now, is this true or people with the same laptop model but different processors have said that they added a total of 10gb - 12gb. I looked up my processor and it said it can hold up to 16gb.
My stock ram is a ddr3 1333mhz 2gb
do i have to match it for example, ddr3 1333 4gb/8gb or can i just get a ddr3 1600mhz 4gb/8gb and what would happen if the 8gb ram wont work? will it just read as 4gb instead? _________________
If you buy 1600mhz the ram will throttle down to 1333mhz to match the onboard 2gb chip. And you can put an 8gb chip in but it will only use 4gb because of hardware limites. So don't waste your time and money, just buy a 4gb 1333mhz chip to max it out. Laptop limitations are edged in stone.
