Oh nice, thank you. You consider to add an "upgrade" feature so settings wont be overwritten on updating CE?

It's a tricky problem as old setting will sometimes break new versions.

Also, sometimes things just get changed so much that the setting will be lost anyhow(like the plugins in 6.2 which got split into a separate 32 and 64 registry setting)

Yeah, also one of the things that are incompatible between versions as 6.2 adds a bit of extra information to some windows like the memoryview.
6.2 is better in handling invalid/useless data though and won't crap out the way 6.1 did (E.g: After installing ce 6.2, and resizing the memoryview window, and then run 6.1 will show an error in 6.1)

I just export the registry and remove all settings that are related to debugging and such (that tend to break a new version of CE).
Install CE, start it once, exit and import the exported settings back.
Viola! No need to re-configure everything from scratch.
I asked DB to look into it in the past - I guess it's easier to just delete all settings than a select few.
Maybe if the "safe settings" were stored in a different sub-tree, it would help.
