Hey guys, I'm just wondering how difficult it is to do this. I know changing internal laptop components is generally quite difficult, but if I could change my Dell Studio 1747 laptop HDD to an SSD, assuming it's possible, how much would it cost for labour & parts?
An approximation is fine, I'm just curious.

Depends, most cost would probably be in purchasing the SSD itself.

| Just do it yourself. Look on the bottom of your laptop for screw holes with a cylinder next to them. There's usually 4 and those will be where your harddrive is. Just unscrew those and you'll be able to pull out the housing for your hard drive, unscrew the drive from the housing, put the SSD in, screw it in, slide it back in, screw into laptop. Done. |

| But I can't just replace my HDD any old regular SSD right? I've heard something about the laptop manufacturers having custom sized hardware components for each of their laptop models. |

oh if that's the case, then this may be easier than I had thought. I just thought the different sized laptop components thing was true because of the varying laptop sizes, despite most of them holding only the most basic & essential components.

| No. THe only people that do custom sized hardware is Apple. Your laptop probably has a 2.5" HDD and SSDs are 2.5". |
