Seems like a hardware problem. Try to do a power cycle of all the peripherals on your machine. What this means in noobspeak is to take out each of your 'devices' such as mouse, keyboard, etc. Leave it for a few seconds for the hardware prefetch cache to flush then plug it back in. Let us know how it goes!!

The hard drive is there, I'm running linux off it right now.

| Do you have windows 7? If so follow slugs advice because I had similar problems when dualbooting sometimes when I booted up and had my external harddrive pluged in I got a load of errors and it wouldnt load. but after cycling and doing pretty much what slug said. and then booting with out the hd plugged in I was able to start with no errors. |

. . . There's this little thing called BIOS, it manages your hardware and throws boot errors when things go wrong. |

| did you make sure to wait a few seconds? try switching some of the devices around if you have more than 1 usb device plugged in. the usb ports will cache the device drivers of devices previously plugged into them. sometimes these will get corrupted which can lead to a similar problem to what you are experiencing. good luck!! |
