Gold/Silver are grindfests after each gym but still fun and the music is wonderful.

Black/White are fun, kinda bad pokemon, but the game is pretty easy to go through with little/no grinding.

edit: perhaps get black/white because black and white 2 are coming out soon.

Ehh, easy games = short story line = get bored of it quickly
Grindfest = get bored easily

Gold = 2 regions
Black/White = 1 region

Not sure which to pick...

G/S shouldn't be that bad if you only use around 4 pokemon, but 6 pokemon will be a grindfest if you want to keep them all equally leveled.

You should get both tbh, Black/White have a better story than G/S, while G/S are nostalgia.

Get Black or White, don't let people tell you that they are bad. The pokemon are only bad if you go in with the mindset "This game is worse than the previous ones for some reason".

Gen V, of course, does not deliver any nostalgia at all, but that's okay because of how much better balanced, streamlined, and story driven it is. There's a bit more direction than the previous games, and there are more "quests". They are visually amazing, the music is the best yet, and the story and villains are the best yet.

Just remember the game is not in Japan anymore. It takes place in cities in the metropolitan area. So it's a little different than before. But, it's good different, not Rick Astley 20 uears later different.

Or if you just want to meander around Johto and Kanto for the umpteenth time get HG/SS. They're good, it's just that I feel like I've played them a thousand times.
