Hi all!
I'm trying to hack The Guild 2 - Renaissance but some really weird stuff is happening....
I'm using default scan settings on CE, looking for a simple 4b-floating value and since there's only about 400megs in RAM it should be a matter of seconds before I have my results. However, what happens is this;
1. CE scans until about 20% of progress then freezes
2. When I check the task manager, the game process starts to bloat at about a rate of 1 or 2 megs per second.
3. Game process continues to bloat until physical memory runs out
4. Process starts swapping physical with virtual memory, HD working overtime, processor is sleeping.
5. After about 5 minutes it stops swapping and CE resumes the scan - at a snail s pace.
6. CE does finish after 8-15 minutes of starting the scan as if noting was wrong. But...scans of 15 minutes kind of kill the fun of hacking
Pointer scans freeze up both game and CE for what it seems like some critical deadlock (I waited 15 minutes then gave up) and need to force-terminate which crashes the game as well.
By the way, I'm also using another debugger (ArtMo') whcih performs even poorer with this game.
Question is, does anybody know whats happening under the hood? Can I improve performance somehow by playing with particular settings? Hope someone can help.
