Picked up SR3 today. Is it worth finishing SR2 for story?

After taking over Stilwater, the Saints basically became like a franchise rather than a gang. Some random shit happens, then congratulations, you're poor and have to do it all again.
Honestly, I liked SR2 more. I feel like SR3 is overhyped.
