Never used Java before. Wanting to learn.

So far I have:

1. Downloaded and setup The Java SE Development Kit (JDK).
2. Installed NetBeans IDE (Are there any better alternatives? Im used to MSVC)

Now I'm wondering:
Do I have to do this stuff or is there anything else I'm missing? http://www.javacoffeebreak.com/tutorials/gettingstarted/part1b.html

Or can I just start coding in Netbeans?

Eclipse is a fairly popular IDE for Java development.

eclipse is nice since you don't have to fuck around with the classpath (although you should still know how but it shouldn't be a frustration when you're learning)

Built in debugger is more than nice
