How do I cheat?

Ok, so I'm playing Okami on PCSX2 and I've gotten very close to figuring out how to change a stat in the game but something is alluding me. I found the display address for it but since it won't change I tried seeing what writes to this address. changing that with empty code has an interesting efffect: the stat I want to change goes to 9999 but all the upgrades you "buy" with this stat also go to 999 haha. The praise stat is what I'm trying to change, you use it to buy upgrades to max life, max ink, etc.
