Because I got in over my head with Swadia, and some bad shit happened. Anyway, for anyone who has played it, what are some good unit combinations, which kingdom should I start at and what weapons should I use? Also any general tips would help.

It's what all the cool people do. *cough* America *cough*

convert all prisoners to army
literally I always had a full troop because for everyone that died more were converted
also get a hero to max medic skills and you can fight forever

you don't have a nation (unless you're their vassal), just side with anyone you want in battles (as long as you're not attacking the nation you want your troops from)
I normally just train my troops to be like, 50% melee and 50% ranged, and then split the melee between 50% cavalry and 50% infantry
I normally started in swadia since they're pretty balanced and are just in the middle of the map so you have easy access to any other nation you want to visit. Rhodock is good if you like being on foot. Khanate is good if you like being on horse. Sultanate are pretty balanced too iirc.
as in general, I always liked raiding villages of enemy nations for easy food & supplies (which can be sold to make loadsemoney)
I also never personally became a vassal because I didn't like being bound to a faction. Just slowly fought my way up until I could capture a castle by myself. If you're on your own, you can make your own faction when you capture something yourself, but if you're someone's vassal, they'll take the castle and MIGHT grant it to you as a fief.

I know, but I have trouble holding a castle by myself, and because on this new save the only people that don't like me are Swadians, I would constantly get 400-800 people besieging my lone castle. Also, if I'm not part of a village, it doesn't let me loot/pillage/fight in battles, it just tells me to not get involved.
