I want to start learning how to make basic web pages and I need advice from my friends.
What is the best program to use when writing HTML code?
Does the program give me an opportunity to see what I have created thus far?
Could I be linked to some useful websites to help me learn?
Thanks y'all.

The standard notepad?
Also how can I see it? Would I save it as a .html and simply open it?
Is this going to be compatible with images as well?
Sorry for all the questions, but I would really love to start learning a thing or two and be able to put up my own website sooner or later.

yeah, you don't really need a compiler for html
download notepad++, will make things a bit easier with highlighting |
Ok wonderful, but once again just the quick questions as to viewing photos that I would want to put on a web page.
How are they referenced, and is HTML rather basic to learn or modify?

Just remember, src="" means that it's loading a file. You can use <img src="photo.png" border="0" />

How does it know where to load an image from? Pardon my lack of HTML knowledge.

Dreamweaver. Just don't use all of the shitty preset coding and design stuff. By far the most useful tool I've used for web design.
Only script kiddies and children think Notepad is the best.
Notepad++ is pretty good as well.

I plan to learn it for myself, but I am sure that I will originally be learning off pre-made scripts just for educational purposes.

src="photo.png" (Say my file were in C:/Xampp/Htdocs/Website/, and was named dap.jpg, I would set the src as src="C:/Xampp/Htdocs/Website/dap.jpg" or if the .html file I was loading from was in /Website/, I could simply write src="dap.jpg"

Thank you now that makes some sense to me. I'm currently using the w3schools website to help me learn the basics and soon enough I'll start working on stuff on my own to learn more.
Any idea how long it takes to be self-sufficient and able to write?

HTML is probably the easiest language, it also has the least amount of features as far as I'm concerned.
Everything you need to know right here:
<title></title>
<center></center>
<img src="">
<a href=""></a>
<br>
<b>
<object width="" height="">
<param name="" value="">
<embed src="" width="" height="">
</embed>
</object>
