I'm good with everything else but he hasn't taught us to differentiate sqrts.

a. y = (2 * sqrt x) + (4/sqrt x)

I'd assume that 2sqrtx turns to 1/x^(-1/2)?
And that 4/sqrtx turns to -2/(x^3/2)??

2rtx = 2x^(1/2)
Power rule: x^n -> nx^(n-1)
x^(-1/2)

You got the second one right though.
