If I copy files and folders from Windows 7 32 bit to external hard disk.
And if I then copy all files from external hard disk to windows 7 64 bit.
Will it work ? Or it will have partitioning or other issues ?
I have never used any external hard disk earlier..
I want to get rid of 32 bit operating system.

I think so. I recommend a backup.

It depends on the programs. Stuff like steam and ce will be easier to copy than a app like visual studio or office since they dig deep into the system files and registry edits which you also need to copy
And you have to put the link to those files back yourself.
You're better off doing an upgrade, or using the windows easy transfer program that is provided by windows. Use it to export everything to the external harddisk and then load it back in 64-bit windows

All I have to transfer is games and compiler setup files and some audio and video files.. Can't plain transfer work with it?
And I read somewhere that easy transfer won't work with 32 bit to 64 bit transfer.

You want to backup those data and install 64-bit version of Win 7 and then gets your data back later? If yes then you have no problem with that unless there's some extreme case. And some game relies on installation info "Game is not installed properly blablah..." so it's wise to just backup save/config files only.

If you have programs like steam games, and you plant them in the folder they belong, steam will replace anything missing after it checks the games. Most other programs wont, so you may need to reinstall them. If they did work they would probably lack a uninstall when you go to remove programs.

You will be able to copy any content files (music, video, documents) over no fuss, but programs are trouble.
To be sure, you should probably reinstall all of your programs. Even if the programs work on your new 64-bit OS, they will be missing various links, which may cause them not to work. Just reinstall to be sure.
