phpbb3 has a lot of nice features that 2 lacks (or requires major modding) but phpbb3 also lacks the amount of finished and maintained mods that phpbb2 had.

phpbb3 came a bit late, most companies go with a paid route so those tend to have the better community with modifications. (When you have to pay to develop for something, you are more inclined to keep developing for it.) There are no good/decent reputation mods for phpbb3 like the one we have here since it is not just reputation, but also how moderators handle warning and banning. Along with all of DBs custom edits and adjustments.

The forums fine as is though, if it works, no reason to break it.

The searches fail because DB turned them off and told people to use Google. It ate too much bandwidth at the time when all the old sections were still around / active and MP cheating was still allowed.

Regardless of how fast the forums are, the speed doesn't effect the bandwidth. Along with that, if DB uses shared hosting on a server with other sites, there are typically CPU and memory usage limitations on each site. Searching a large database is not a resource friendly task and can overload the box easily if enough people use the search at once.

Either way it's up to DB to reenable the original search engine.

The thanks mod on phpbb3 is exactly the same as the current rep system, just changed "thanks" to "rep".

Actually i think now that there is new year coming, CE should get a new look or something. Old is good but change doesn't hurt, its refreshing.

The colors are totally boring and its the community and the people that makes this place fun but if you ask about the theme, meh...
