I have to agree with avair on this one. Heres a wiki page:

tl;dr: It is caching from googles point of view (I never checked the persistence of the information, but if its for extended periods, thats archiving), but not from the clients point of view, since its not transparent. Either way, this is just what I think, but what I think is certainly more educated and if slusnack where here, Im sure he would be more than happy to disagree with me. And if you were slugsnack, I might just argue the point.
