A twitter thing, that only works for twitter, and only applies to twitter, and only affects twitter...

Why do whites and Hispanics use hash tags in Facebook posts?

I'm white, I use them, but just to make fun of others who do since it's not Twitter.

Google+ uses +. Fb uses @, Twitter uses #, Tumblr uses # too I think.

Tumblr uses # too, though I'm not sure if they're called hashtags.

As for the reason, if you put it that way, there's no reason to use any symbol on Facebook. Since that symbol is not official, it cannot be collective to one party, therefore people can use it at their discretion.
