It seems like it would teach you a lot - as in more than the low level language itself, just things on what the computer is really doing, I've seen how powerful it is. But not sure if it would have any practical applications.

For what purpose? As a programmer, yes, understanding stuff at a low level will generally also improve your skill at a higher level

I don't want to learn it for exploits, I've seen how much work goes into that with ASM. I was kind of thinking of making things with it that I could make interact with my PHP, something cool to do with hardware.
