|
|
Hello,
Yesterday I disassembled my old laptop to repair the dc connector.
While reassembling it, I think that I might have damaged either the processor or the motherboard.
Now when I try to turn it on, it goes on for about 5 seconds, but before the screen can even display anything, it crashes, and then tries to turn itself on again. This keeps happening until I take out the battery.
Anyone here happen to know if this problem is related to the processor, or to the motherboard?
If there was a problem with the processor, wouldn't I just get a blue screen with an error message on it?

You've probably bent a prong on the MB.
Either way, it will be related to the processor mainly because the computer wont be able to recive commands to turn the machine off and on without the motherboard working correctly.
if your getting a BSOD, if you get a shot at it, using windows 7/8Alpha,
start > run > verifier
Wait until next BSOD, and until your PC starts back up, turn it off by choosing: delete selected options.
Windows 7 Forums (Shitsta is also) there.

I'm not getting anything, the screen doesn't even light up.
But you are right about it not being the motherboard, I found that out right after I posted this (well, a while after, I disassembled my laptop again to find out it was impossible to damage it the way I thought I might have done).
I have an other old laptop lying around. Could I just replace the broken processor with the processor from that one? It's about 10 years older...

I highly doubt it's the same socket, and even if it is the performance loss you will suffer will be beyond massive. If you have shops around that have free diagnosis, take it to them. Did you drop any of the parts while pulling it apart? Check the wires, make sure none of them got pinched while putting it back together. re-seat the ram. Did you follow a guide to take it apart? What was wrong with the power connector?

I don't know any shops like that, but I'm gonna look for them.
The front (made of metal) was bent (because of my charger overheating all the time), and came off partly. Because of this, it would only charge if I held it in a certain way, but finding out how to hold it took time, and it was annoying to have to hold it in the same position the whole time.
Kind of like having to hold a radio in the right way to get a clear signal.
So I straightened it and put it back in.
To disassemble my laptop, I followed this guide
http://laptoprepairmanual.blogspot.com/2008/11/acer-aspire-7520-service-manual.html
And at the same time watched some guy on YouTube do it.
I thought I had to take out the processor first in order to be able to take out the motherboard, so I unlocked it and took it out. But when putting it back in, I didn't lock it properly and when I flipped my laptop it fell on the floor. Some of the pins got bent, and there was some dirt in between them. So I cleaned it out carefully and bent the pins straight again.
And ever since, I've been unable to boot up my pc.
So I'm guessing it's because of what happened to the processor.
Could be something else, but I checked and didn't see anything weird or damaged. I also reseated the ram.
