Posted: Thu Jul 14, 2011 6:11 pm Post subject: How to reformat a re-writable DVD+R? |
|
|
I used a re-writable DVD+R as my computer back up. I no longer needed the backup, and tried to delete all the content off the DVD, but wasn't able to. The "Delete" option isn't there when I highlight the files.
So I was wondering if there was any software out there that could reformat the DVD, and make it usable again. I know Windows already comes with something to do this, but I'd rather use something else.
If there is software for this, please let me know!
Thanks :)

You can if it's DVD+RW. And that is what OP was inferring.

Shut the fuck up. He clearly said DVD+R and there is no rewriteable DVD+R. Why would he write rewriteable DVD+R instead of DVD+RW if he knows what he's talking about?
On an unrelated note, congrats on using the word infer incorrectly, you dumb shit. Kindly fuck off with your chanisms.

Just make doubly sure that the disk you wrote to is DVD+RW, assuming you typo-ed. You may not actually see an option to reformat it, that is usually done when burning new data to the disk, then you will be presented with the option to format the disk.

Disc that are write once are called "Recordable"
Disc that can be written many times are called "Rewritable"
Recordable disc cannot be erased while rewritables can.
To reuse a rewritable disc, you can use Nero as it has a Erase function build in.
And formatting a disc is different than erasing a disc.

If the disc is RW then put it in the dvd drive, go to my computer, right click the cd, format. See where that takes you.

agh, sorry about all the confusion guys. The reason why I said the DVD+R was rewritable is because there's a "RW" on right half of the disk:
I really don't know if it means that it's rewritable though.

That specific RW sign means Read & Write, not ReWritable
edit
... (I think)

ah, yeah, you're probably right, They most likely would've just printed DVD+RW on the disk instead of DVD+R if it was actually rewritable.

The "RW" logo is part of the DVD+RW alliance and it's for marketing purposes
from its competitor DVD-R/RAM. It does not represent read and write.
All plus R disc will have that "RW" logo on it and to tell if it's write once or
write many times, it will say under that "RW" logo.
"RW"
DVD+R= write once
"RW"
DVD+Rewritable= write many times

I wonder if they ever considered how confusing that is.
@Zach, looks like you are indeed going to need another disc.

Here's some reading up on what the difference between - and + on discs are. (Read history)
