But really, if they are so concerned about their computer will be
terrorized with all sorts of malicious software - Bring them here :) To this
specific thread. Let them talk to some of us who is serious on this Forum. This
Thread called "OMG VIRUS!!" was created by Dark Byte in 2006.
Antivirus software has since the dawn of their time accused Cheat Engine
for being a virus, because it uses some mechanisms that "looks scary"
to the antivirus software. But in fact it is not.

I know this is not the way Cheat Engine works, but for the sake of
simplicity (also aimed at your parents), I will try to explain it in this way.

Cheat Engine changes "stuff" inside the Computers memory. Of course
this could be used in a bad way, and harm you PC ~ And therefore does
the Antivirus software always mark Cheat Engine as malicious software.
But we here at Cheat Engine have no intentions for doing you or your
computer harm. Why would we do so? ~ I would also like to add, that
Cheat Engine is "idiot"-proofed. Even if you have absolutely no idea what
you're doing, you can NOT mess up your computer without actually
knowing what you're doing, and intend to do so.
Cheat Engine is a respected piece of software engineered primarily by
Dark Byte. Cheat Engine has a clean reputation.

I would love to help you out, and get you into using Cheat Engine. The
more smart people we have, the better. Who knows, you might end up
getting a whole career out of this!

But if you don't feel comfortable with deceiving your parents by
downloading software without their permission, then please bring them
here - to this specific thread. We'd love to explain everything :)

Just explain to them the viruses released in a download that the author knows is being detected as a virus by some av would mean that the author is not really intending to release an actual virus in the world. Given what CE is and is capable of doing, no doubt if Dark wanted to release a truely malicious and undetected piece of malware into the world he is more than capable to do so.

I personally feel that the fact it's known detected by some and a thread creating stating this and explaining this away is more than enough to consider it to be safe to download and use.

I think if you present your case to them armed with as much correct information as you can get your hands on and argue your case rationally, but with respect to them they may just allow you to use it with their permission give them a bit of education, this will show them that you aren't going off half cocked and you have thoroughly researched this subject.

If it helps, explain that use of this program will help you to gain a better understanding of how computers and software really work. Really even though it's a tool for creating cheats in game it is still an educational tool of sorts.
