I have been looking to buy some new headphones recently and wondered if there were any audiophiles among CEF, and to see what kind of headphones you use. Tell us what the name of the headphone is, what type of headphone it is, what company made the headphone and would you recommend them. I have tested some Audio-Technica stuff recently and have been impressed, especially by the ATH-M50s.

I like over ear headphones for quality, but I like in ear buds for portability.

Great sound, but you can't lie down with them or walk around, and when sitting down the plug lies on the ground making it really easy to get squashed by the wheels of my chair (had to buy a new one just because the plug was completely smashed)

I personally prefer cover-ear (I guess that's what you mean with on-ear). Currently I have an over-ear logitech headset, which I hate and is uncomfortable as all hell.

Can't stand ear-buds at all either, they hurt my ears after a few minutes of constantly trying to keep them in place.

what your Budget? and preferences? The best ones are the ones that cover your ear but they are bulky and the least portable. The in earbuds are really nice too but can feel a bit awkward the first time you use them. Read this

My Sennheiser HD555 (modded to 595) serves me well. Also one of the few quality headphones not requiring an amp to sound decent (although amps do help massively).

Yes beats are shit, skullcandy will get you the same quality for a quarter the price, so if you're going for studio quality get sennheiser or yamaha.
I personally have skullcandy earbuds, just because I can't afford better over-ear studios. I just listen to music while riding my bike with them, that's all they're really good for, but skullcandy does make high quality budget studios.
And no matter what you do, stay away from dr. dre.
