Hello, welcome to the forums Smile

Programming/Trainer Requirements
I would say you need VB -or- C++ -or- C# (though more than one wouldn't hurt). Some very smart people recommended C# to me, I use VB and AutoIt at the moment (would not recommend AutoIt). As an alternative to these, Cheat Engine has a built-in trainer maker which I am unfamiliar with, but I believe it is LUA-based. Assembly could be used, but I think most people would agree it probably isn't best suited for people who are still getting settled in.

You're probably best off leveraging your C experience. You could write trainers in Java, but then you're going to need JNI/JNA and some overhead code to make things work properly; I considered going Java but don't think it is well suited for applications which are tightly bound to a specific platform and making heavy use of platform-specific calls.

Memory Knowledge
I think knowing some ASM is more likely to help you in this department than in actual programming, as you can review machine code to see how memory is manipulated.

Getting Started
Start with the cheat engine trainer, it has several levels with descriptions of the task with plenty of hints. I'd recommend doing the tutorial several times to be really sure you are familiar with everything contained. Once you get into other programs, things become a bit more complex so you're better off if you're intimately familiar with the tutorial material.

I can't stress it enough, there is so much to learn in those few steps.

You will need to be familiar with a few ASM instructions to make more than basic cheats. Simple scanning in the memory does not require any knowledge but most games are not using static addresses so you have to learn to use pointers or (which is better) learn about code injection.
