|
|
I got a Dell C400 laptop and I've had it for quite a while now(I know it's old). Apparently, it now crashes on startup and I can't read what the blue screen says. Safemode does the same. Can somebody please tell me why this is happening?
I tried to re-install the OS, but it can't read DVD-disks. I'm pretty sure the registry got fucked and I can't start it because of that. I would highly appreciate it if somebody would tell me how to fix it WITHOUT buying anything.

On startup, before Windows starts loading, tap the F8 key.
Choose the option to not automatically restart on system failure. You can then tell us the BSOD error.

go into your BIOS and make sure your CD/DVD drive's boot is set to first priority. make the hard-drive second, or third.
then you will be able to boot from the disc

My laptop can't read DVD-Roms. It's kinda gay, but I can't get another one.

Your machine is infected with malware, try safemode with command prompt and run see if you can install any scanners.
A list of good software are sticky on CT.

have you tried what I told you, though? cuz in the OS it might not be working, but outside of OS (BIOS), it might work. So, try it. Tell me what you get.
