|
|
Sooo I'm trying to overclock my GPU.
How do I know how much I should push it? I've clocked 200mhzs and it's fairly stable but me being a pussy, I'm a bit scared of pushing it further.
I have an ATI Radeon HD5870m (it's in a laptop) and currently my temperature at 98% load is 80c in a confined space and I can push it down 70c by placing it in a more open area.

the m in ATI Radeon HD5870 means mobile so we can conclude that it's in a laptop
anyway, you can clock it to whatever extent to want by increments of 5, 10, 20 or what you want. just be sure to monitor it or it might overheat.

I see. Do you have any idea at what point it overheats?

Another question:
How important is overclocking the memory clock?
I've only overclocked the core clock so far and it's giving me great results.

OCing the memory may net you up to 5 FPS increase, but that's about the extent of it. Doesn't hurt to bump it up though.
For your 5870M, try having clocks of 800/1100 for starters. After that bump up the core clock by 5MHz increments.

850 is the most stable I got.
