I am starting a group of 7 students at my high school (note: we are a Charter School) and we are looking to create a game that is functional, elegant, and has a storyline. The only problem i am having is with the planning process.
We currently have a forum (hosted by cheatengine) but i was wondering if there is any other free forum host that is better
Also we need a group uploading site. We CANNOT use an ftp client it must be in browser. Unfortunately Google is closing their service soon. So we are in need of a replacement. and it needs to do the following
The ability to sort files into folders
Search Bar
Date + Time Uploaded
Group members can upload to the network and download
***FREE***
Also, We need software for modeling and skins
This is what we are currently using
*UNITY 3D* -game engine-
Blender -modeling
3ds Max -modeling + animations-
Gimp -textures-
Photo shop -textures- *not sure about the license- |

You actually paid for all of those tools for a small project like this?
I doubt anyone is going to be willing to host your game if you pirated all the tools.
If you need uploading via browser just make your own php uploader and protect it / make it private and just not inform people of it.
As for forums, you said CE is hosting them now, and you want a better free host? You already have someone willing to host for you apparently, any alternative is going to have more limitations and a zillion ads.
If you can afford all those tools invest $10 in some hosting and make your own site/forum. _________________

To make a game, you're going to have to overcome a lot more problems than something as trivial as a hosting site.
You do realize that browsers are able to access FTP storage, right? Instead of http://, you use ftp://.
Other than that... whoever is programming on your team, it would CERTAINLY be a good project for them to simply design a server that meets your description. It would require little more than basic knowledge of whatever programming language you are using, and a few HTTP protocols.
Obviously, host the server on a computer that you can run 24/7, and if you are really serious about it, buy a dot com domain name for $9.
Anyway, what made you pick Unity 3D? I suppose it looks alright if you are using C#. Personally I've found Xors3D to be my favorite. |

We chose unity for the amount of features it has. it supports multiplayer/mmo (networking), rpg, fps, 3ps, rts, platmormers ect
we have payed for all the tools (besides the open source ones) The "we" being the school district
We are a group of HIGHSCHOOL STUDENTS so all of the resources installed on our vm *must* be legit and legal
the domain is covered we have access to a lot of domains names that i personally own.
As for the host whoever is the other problem. We don't want to have to put in a purchase order in to the schools admin office. for a lot of reasons including the 2 weeks it takes to be reviewed, the probability of them declining the offer. ect
Here's a little thing u need to know about my school. We are far from a normal school. we have less than 60 students. It's a project based school meaning students choose what they want to learn. There is no "classrooms" We just work on whatever our projects are on. I am into a lo of programming and web design so i created this group. |

| Why do you NEEEED to upload it via a browser? Sounds like a silly restriction.. Otherwise, you could have used something like launchpad.net or a free GIT host. |

Did you check out UDK? Although this UNITY engine looks pretty sweet.
EDIT: imo the Unity editor is half the editor udk has.. _________________
