How exactly does a gang "replace family"?
You can't replace family. Being with a group of people that sell drugs, steal, and murder is nothing like being with your family.

Family is people you trust, you'd save their ass, do anything for them, care for them.
Yeah, it sound stupid when they are killing people 24/7 and etc, but people in gangs cherish each other as if they were a brother.

Yea. I usually just follow them into their bandit hideout and move in with my troops. Decent loot may not be abundant late game, however, it's a great way to level your troops.
