| What is the processor from the old computer, and what are the motherboards from both?

Are they the same slots? If so possibly as long as the motherboard voltage meets the newer chips requirements. There should be some other designation on it other than just Intel. You may need to count pins, or take it to someone who knows more about hardware and have them identify it. As to whether I'd just throw it in there and see if it worked. I wouldn't, until I made sure it was compatible.

| Compare sockets, it's fairly easy. Just google the CPU you want to use then google the motherboard you want to use and see if they both have the same socket. If they match, the CPU will work, if they don't, you'll need a new motherboard/CPU.

i've got the two chips info and i know that the motherboard from the old comp is a foxcon Ls-36
intel pentium 4 cpu 3.00 ghz from the old comp and a connolly mother board from the new comp but i need to keep the core thats in there as well .they are both duo cores so if i put them in toghter then i'll have a quad core right ?

I think you are mistaken in your idea of what a quad core is. A quad core cpu has 4 core in the cpu die itself, not 2 chips with 2 cores. Now there are motherboards that support dual chips on the same board, you should find a model number on both boards and make sure you can use dual cpus on them. Also cpus like ram are not good when mixed.
Dell typically uses Connelly so I doubt it will accept dual cpus.
