Laser guns are not new stuff at all. But the video is kinda funny. "Moment of impact" with a laser gun in a room. I mean how much time does it take for a laser gun to reach the target which is in 5 meters max?

At first I thought it was one milliwatt, then I watched the video and it said megawatt. That's extremely powerful for a laser. Just one watt is enough to easily burn through a CD case... a megawatt is one million times stronger.
This would be extremely dangerous to the user as well. You would certainly need eye protection. Apparently it's only a 100ns burst, but with so much energy, even that short of a burst could possibly do damage. Even more dangerous is that it's invisible (ordinary cameras detect IR light, but our eyes don't), so you wouldn't feel pain in your eyes, even though there is damage.
Quite magnificent, but it seems there's little info in that article. I'm curious as to how its divergence is and where the focal point is. If divergence is bad and focal point is close, then it doesn't have any range... which defeats the whole purpose of a gun.

I suspect that given most of the objects shot in the video are less than 3 meters away it has a very limited range.
Still the cool factor to be the first on your block with a firing laser pistol would be awesome.

Wouldn't say this is the first, Kipkay made one a while ago. Not saying his was the first either, but it's not a first for sure.
Still, looks cool though lol.

Probably not, considering that an M4 carbine does a hell of a lot more damage and is far more intimidating.
Imagine a Call of Duty firefight with whisper quiet laser pistols. Just wouldn't feel right.

To avoid something like this, supersoldiers would be equipped with 2 kind of weapons.
1. Awesome laser weapon.
2. Rocks to throw at the mirrors and brake them, maybe with a slinger.
So the tactic is:
1. Sneak up on the mirror tanks.
2. Throw rocks at them to break the mirrors.
3. Bring the pain with the laser weapon.
Unless the whole tank is just a mirror because then, rocks are enough.
ROCK: Best weapon ever!
Some anti-missile systems are using laser, it looks pretty cool.

why not just a small weapon like a pistol? you wouldn't need much much force to break mirrors with a pistol lol.
but right, rocks are rocks. they're everywhere.

Most likely the mirrors would be made with plexiglass and not be so breakable.
On top of that, glass absorbs IR light. So if the laser were powerful enough to burn through the tank, it should easily melt through the mirrors.
Plus, I don't think a laser pistol is even that effective. It's "bullet" of light is so small, there's plenty of places where it could travel right through your body and not only would you live, you wouldn't even be immobilized.
If someone can survive a shotgun round that removes 1/3rd of their brain, I'm kinda thinking a pin-sized laser beam is not going to have any practical use in a military situation.

Can't believe anyone was taking that mirror thing seriously.

It still generate some heat so blowing up a rocket or maybe an ammo dump from far is possible. And it is quite easy to aim with it (at least easier than a sniper rifle).
