Hey everyone, my parents ATM have a negative opinion on letting me get an Xbox 360 or ps3, I am trying to think up some reasons why they should let me have 'another bloody machine'. All I have thought up so far is that a ps3 has blueray so they can watch their movies on it. I'll mostly be playing mw2/mw3 when it comes out. If you have been in the same situation please tell me how you got around it.
My only real advantages are that I've got the money so they dont pay a cent, and that we are movig house and they know I hate the new house.

@Jorg hi - they won't let me get it cause they say I'll spend too much time on it and that it will take me ages to get off cause I'm 'getting to a checkpoint' or 'saving'.
@Oblivious - I've already told them about the swearing but I dont think they think there wouldn't be sex offenders on psn and xbl

Get good grades, say you'll maintain them and they might give in.

No offense, but man the fuck up.
Tell them it's your money and you can do with it what you want.

Parental relationships don't work like that most of the time and the kind of parents that have negative opinions on video games are unlikely to respond well to that kind of attitude.

Convince them its an entertainment device not a video game player, highlight entertainment benefits i.e. netflix, ESPN etc.
You can even convince them it wouldn't be a device only for you, by showing them something such as Kinect which appeals as a family oriented device

Bang Your head in the wall a few times and if they ask what happened with You, tell that Your schoolmates have figured You don't have an Xbox so You have been cast out and beaten. Without an Xbox, You have no chance to redeem Yourself and fit back into society.

Seems to me if it's your money, in your possession then they have little control over how you chose to spend it. Now if they are holding it, or it's in your account but you need them to access it for you then that's another problem.

Depending on what does He mean by "own money". If He has worked for it, that is one thing. If He just got it as allowance for something (to buy clothes or similar), then He is not free to spend it as He like it. Freedom starts when You are independent and He is obviously not so yeah, He is under control.
Btw. I am not surprised that Your parents don't want You to waste Your life with an Xbox360, especially if You are that type of guy who would do nothing but play all day with it. I wouldn't like to see that my kid is playing games all day and I would try to encourage Him/Her to do other things too. Of course I am not against some playing but playing all the time is definitely not useful. It feels good and everything but basically it is a waste of time and You do not have infinite amount of time. If You can prove to them that You understand this and You can manage Your time with responsibility, draw Your limits and not cross them as a weak minded individual would do, then maybe You are good to go. First You need to grow up to see their point of view and then You can try to open a debate with them. You don't have to convince them that You deserve that entertainment, You need to convince them that You can keep limits. If You can't, Your grades will go down, You will be lazy and the Xbox will take over with the "oh so many funny games". Make sure to maintain control over the desire to play games, or Your parents will do that instead of You.
It is probably a lost battle to try convincing them why is it good for them. It is also obvious why is it good for You. You are a kid and kids "deserve" some fun in most parents opinion, but only some fun, and not funfunfunfun all the time. Life is not just about playing and You have to learn that now, or You will learn it later with a harder and much more painful lesson.
I think this is the key to convince them. If You know that You cannot keep Your promise, it is better if You don't get that console because it will be bad for You on the long terms.

Just try to tell them that you are going to maintain your grades or even increase them and also, try to oblige them that you won't spend too much time on it and do most of the chores without any complaints.

I don't think you're right there. I'm not really sure how old OP is, but if it's HIS money, he can buy with it what he wants. If his parents don't allow him to buy a PS3/Xbox with his own money, they seriously need to take their child more serious.
I know not every parent/child relation works like this, but it certainly is the best way for him to do it if he really wants to have it. Also, if he succeeds he will also have the permanent benefit that his parents will take him more serious in future requests.
@OP
Consoles suck, they're just like Macs. Shiny on the outside, but crap on the inside. I seriously recommend spending your money on a strong computer.
