I've tried all combinations, both sticks work ALONE in EITHER slot, but if I put in the second stick it freezes before even getting to POST.
it's a pre-built system given to me by a friend that thinks it's trash, it doesn't need to get fixed, but I'm curious why it'll only boot with 1 stick.
PC
I currently do NOT have access to other DDR2 RAM to check it until later when sister is off her PC.
[Resolved]
One of the sticks gives errors during test 2 in memtest, other stick gives errors during test 5 in memtest but ONLY while in the second RAM bank on the mobo.

Is there a bios update available? Are the two DDR2 sticks the same frequency?

Not sure, will check once win7 is done installing on it (old install was corrupted(?) (windows kept tryng to install software over and over, probably malware)
Yes, they are. they're the same sticks that came with the pc and the only time the case was opened was from me earlier today.

Reset bios, try one stick, and the other separately, also run memtest86+ to make sure the sticks aren't bad.

Yeah I had the exact same problem when I added a RAM stick to my HP prebuilt rig.
I used a can of compressed air and blew on the RAM slot for like 2 minutes and stuck it back in. Worked from then on.

Running memtest on the first stick now, the system came pre-installed with a bloated version of Vista Home Premium. Both sticks are the EXACT same.
Image: This is where it freezes with both sticks, note the white dots all over too, that's not a monitor problem and only happens when I have both sticks in.
