...this error pops up every time I try to scan. If it helps, I'm running windows 7 64-bit. I'm not even able to do the tutorial!
I just know I'm missing something obvious. Help is appreciated!
(I know the forum doesn't want me to post urls yet, but I figure it would help if you guys could see the problem.)

what kind of scan did you do?
And how much memory do you have free on your c: drive ?
And how much ram do you have ?

It was an exact value scan in the picture, but all of the scans give the same error.
My c: drive has 383gb free.
Edit: And thanks for the fast reply!
Edit2: 4gb of ram

what value did you scan for?
And does the scan results stay empty?
And what OS is it? vista or win 7? If vista, try the 32-bit version of ce that comes with it
also, check out the "%temp%\Cheat Engine" folder and look for the folder with the newest date. Is it empty ?

I searched for value 100, but it gives the error no matter how I scan it. I don't get any scan results.
I'm running windows 7 64-bit, and I've tried running the 32-bit and 64-bit versions. They both give me the same error.
None of the folders in my cheat engine folder are empty

check the files in that temp folder with the latest date.
is the addresses.tmp file larger than 7 bytes ?
also, when you click ok, does the addresslist stay empty ?
have you tried disabling your anti virus ?

when you go to that temp folder you get to a specific folder
In my case that is "C:\Users\DB\AppData\Local\Temp\Cheat Engine"
What is the text in your folder (And please, do not censor the username part, I believe the problem might lie there)

anyway, what you can try is:
create the folder c:\scanresults
then go to settings->scan settings
tick the checkbox with text "Don't store the temporary scanfiels in the windows tempdir"
and fill in as scandir :"c:\scanresults\"
click ok and restart ce (so you get a new memory scan object)

This "Scan error:" problem is really common for some reason, even for guys with high-end computers and lots of free space. More info will be needed on it.
Another "bug": If I choose 4 bytes as value type and I give a hex number or any letter, I also have this "Scan error:".
Probably it has nothing to do with the "low on memory" thing, but the "symptoms" (the error message) is the same. So it doesn't hurt to clarify that the value type and the given value is compatible.

I changed the scan settings like you said, but it still gives me the same error. Thanks for still helping me, though!

download http://cheatengine.org/temp/cheatengine-x86_64.exe and extract it to the ce folder overwriting the original exe (make sure ce is closed when you do that)
then do a scan with that and see what the error is that you get (this doesn't fix the error, but it does fix the not showing of the error, and it may have a few pieces of text roaming about the gui, just ignore them and clicking them will do unexpected stuff)
