|
|
For 11 years, I've been staying up late...
Even when I had to get to work at 8 or 9 am, I'd stay up until 2-3 am and take another nap after work.
If I don't go out of my way to control it, I stay up until 8 am - 10 am...
I just feel like it shouldn't be this hard. So I looked into it a little more and, although its controversial, at least one source suggested
that in the early days of humans, we would sleep from the early morning to the afternoon, because the sunlight provided
shelter from predators.
But unfortunately, society demands that we stay awake during the day... and although I don't plan to do this my whole
life, I definitely need to do it for the next few years while I get into college and work to pay off debt.
I've trying staying up all night, and it's somewhat impossible. At most, I can stay up later than usual, and then
I'll just go back to the schedule my body seems to want, which is 8 am to about 6 pm.
I used to stay up for about 4-5 hours at a time, sleep for 4 hours, repeat. At least now I am doing all
my sleeping in one go, but it's still at the wrong time.
Has anyone tried OTC melatonin, and can you get it at walmart? I don't think a simple sedative will be strong enough
and I definitely can't afford seeing a doctor or medication.
Almost every night I have a different plan for what I'm going to do, and once in a while I come up with a good one.
Tonight I plan to play a multiplayer action game, which gets my heart racing and makes my back stiff.
Once my back is sore, I will watch mythbusters or something while laying in bed, that always gets me to sleep.
Any ideas?

I suggest smoking weed.
Get up @ 7 am, do whatever you're doing all day up till 9.30pm and smoke up, turn all your electronics off at 10 pm and read something like a book for half an hour then try going to bed. You might lye in bed for about 30 minutes to an hour thinking, try to plan what you're gonna do tomorrow. You'll eventually fall asleep and because of weed's strange effect, you should get a good sleep and feel rested when you wake up @ 7 the next day.

| This happens to me all the time. On a friday, (assuming you have saturday and sunday off), just stay up instead of sleeping, and sleep at 'normal' hours, like 9PM-9AM (12 hours of sleep)

1. Wake up at 10:30
2. Stay up all day
3. Stay up all night
4. Stay up as long as you can after, aim for 6 PM
You'll wake up at about 6 oclock the next morning, feeling refreshed.

Are stimulants like caffeine allowed during the time when you're super tired?

| If you truly want to fix it you must force a getting up time. Force yourself to get up at 8 or 9 and eventually the sleep will sort itself out. At first you may be able to stay up till 3-4 still. Then after a few days your body will tire itself out and as long as you continue forcing yourself to get up early, you'll start to get sleepy at regular times.

my sleep schedule has been so fucked the last month it's ridiculous. i've been going to sleep at like 9 or 10 am. i simply didn't go to sleep last night and i'll be attempting to fix it tonight... or i'll just somehow get second wind and continue the cycle of fucked like an idiot. not the first time i've done it, but it's usually not too difficult to sort it out in a couple nights.
right now i'm wired on caffeine enough that i'm awake in the sense that i'm not falling over tired, but i'm still physically tired to the point where my eyes burn. fun stuff. shoveling a foot of snow this morning only exasperated the matter.
yes, your body has its own internal clock that usually doesn't take too kindly to getting jerked around. sometimes you can get weird effects by breaking your sleep schedule, i get migraines.
also one hilariously effective otc drug is benedryl. pop 2 and it will wreck your shit. it's safe to use as a sleep aid, diphenhydramine (aka what serves to make up benedryl) will often be found in other otc sleep aids. liquid will probably work faster than pills. good for anxiety too if you can stave off the drowsy.

Wow thanks for all the input!
@ ZacTheSin: I just quit spice a couple months ago. Besides, it didn't affect me like that. I smoked constantly so much that I was always used to it; it never made me neither tired nor alert. At best, it helped me get out of bed because I wanted a bowl so bad.
@ Everyone else: thanks. Last night I actually did stay up until 6 pm, then woke up at 4 am. Today I have to work at 5 pm to 9 pm. I will surely fall asleep soon after.
Then the only hard part will be falling asleep around 10 pm tomorrow but if I can do that, I should be back on track =D

A mix of forcing yourself to sleep and waking up and specific times, along with pills can help. In the sense that you take them responsibly and at the recommended dosage. (Sleep aids not just random pills.) Get an alarm that will wake you up at a specific time as well to make sure you adjust to the new time.
Typically for me if I need to get back onto a normal schedule I tend to stay up all night then go to bed the next day at a normal time. In most cases it will help me stay at more-regular hours for the next few days til insomnia gets the best of me and my schedule gets fucked again.

What I have done for the past 2 years, has worked 100%
You fast for 16 hours before your desired wake up time, say you want to wake up at 6am you will eat at 2pm and fast until 6am when you will eat a nice breakfast

At night:
Turn off PC/TV.
Eat
Take a shower
Get in bed, turn off the lights, and wait for you to go to sleep.
Don't stimulate yourself in any way.

Ah yes I discovered this when I was doing research, and forgot about it.
What I read was to fast like 4-6 hours before bed, but it didn't cross my mind that fasting for longer would have an even stronger effect (which is what I need).
I actually did fix my sleeping schedule for about a week, then I finally started getting more hours at my work and had to work until 2-3 AM. One thing that really works for me is laying in bed while watching TV (on my monitor of course -- who needs cable when you have megavideo?).
