|
|
I just now realized how very possible this would be to happen. There are truly a myriad of reasons, but one just dawned to me. Aside from the obvious thread from the outside, meaning space, there is one other which seemed to me would be a logical course of action. I have been drinking, so this might make a lot of sense to me, but none to you, nonetheless, bare with me, even if you just do so for the comical effect...
Now as we've discussed in multiple thread before, humans are really identical to what we have defined as a parasite. We use up and manipulate resources from the earth, much like worms use up the resources in our bodies and irregulate things like the immune system, bowl movement, and sometimes even the ability to breathe. Only we cause unnatural reproduction in livestock, release toxins when we produce, etc etc.
The point being that we, when infected, go on the offensive. We analyze the issue, and destroy the parasite which causes the harmful effect. So wouldn't it be a natural course of action for nature, which we ARE a part of, to do the same to us? In terms of parasites, we are by far the most aggressive one. We are great in numbers, and even though we are aware of the problems we cause, we do very little to stop it. Wouldn't it be a very possible scenario for nature to deal with it in its own way?
As a matter of fact, wouldn't it seem that nature has already attempted to get rid of us (or at least greatly diminish us in numbers) many, many times in before in the past (Plague, Typhoid)? We've only recently been able to counter diseases before thought to be terminal. Not to mention the highly dangerous (infectious) diseases still roaming the earth (AIDS, Ebola, Malaria, Cancers).
I mean lets not kid ourselves. We're nothing special when you think about it. We're an intelligent parasite, that's all. Take away the host and we die within mere seconds. And we're not even that intelligent, considering we realize the thread of our host dying, but are incapable of changing the way we live in order for the host to stay in an equilibrium. Instead we are simply looking at other planets, and how we can sustain or create life there. The more I think about it, the more I realize how messed up we are. If a more intelligent life form would come into contact with us, would you believe them to welcome us? I find it much more believable they'd attempt to eradicate us to preserve the planet and its resources, much like we destroy parasites in our own bodies were we to find them.
Regards,
Me
PS: To those that might come back with "we serve a purpose on this planet", please elaborate on that. Because I'm pretty sure 'The meaning of life' has yet to be answered, in the biblical and non-biblical sense.

Man is not needed for the world to continue. We simply diminish resources wastefully without fully considering renewable energy. Whilst your theory on nature eradicating us is interesting, it's very unlikely as nature can't be seen to have a will (even some form of subconsciousness).

Man kind is destroying the world, not helping it.
It'd do fine without mankind. It would thrive even.

I meant the more immense ones. Like the one that created the Chixulub Crator. (Might not have spelled it right)
Possibly even bigger ones, that could completely end life on the planet.

Possibly even bigger ones, that could completely end life on the planet. | You're still just introducing the possibility of an asteroid to an argument that isn't about such a phenomenon. This is about how man isn't needed, and as the world has no thought, it can't 'need', per se.
