|
|
I will be trying out linux on my school laptop since i dont play games on that ( only web browser games )
I was hoping someone could recommend a nice version that fits for me.
Basically I will be using the pc for
web browsing
watching movie
writing documents
I also need one that has a good VMware because i need to use some programs that only run on windows.
I've really never tried linux before so, a nice noob friendly one to start with please.
+ would be nice if it had a pretty cool GUI and desktop
Thanks!

Ubuntu by far for you. VMware = Wine on linux distros and doesn't always work the way you want it to, expect alot of Windows things to not work on it.
Need any help then just ask been running linux for a good few years now.

God is correct. Default Ubuntu install will do those things, though you may wish to further it and install Open Office as well, which will give you MS Office style compatibility. As for Wine you will have to install it yourself. Ubuntu's package managers should make this an easy task for you. I know there are several Linux users here of differing distros, so tech help is not far away.
Enjoy your new found OS.

It's THE Linux of the day. No reason to use anything else on a home computer unless you're interested.

I know wine can be used to run some other platform programs, but is starting a VMware on linux with windows 7 just like starting another program?
( I know i need to assign RAM and stuffz to VMware)
