|
Somehow i managed to get into a discussion with a person whom stands firm that Google does not have the power to control him, then i mentioned how they can break the worlds economy and get big chunks of your identity of just what you got in you mail.
what do you think? Does Google have to power to control?
personally i think they got to much power, but there aren't really any way from stopping them...

Popularity and control are not the same. Whatever changes Oracle were to make to Java it would have no effect on plenty of embedded systems which use that technology since they are effectively complete standalone systems.

If Oracle wanted to take over the world they could manufacture computers with built in microphones for all of their new products.
If you wanted to take it to a sci-fi level, they could make their products robots in disguise.
All google makes physically are TV's and Phones, that I know of.

| Oracle has very little reach in the hardware field. It has expanded with the recent acquisition of Sun but even then most of their hardware 'products' are not of the end-user level.

| i vote Microsoft. we have seen that a large part of the computers in the us use a Microsoft product. they have proven they have more money buy buying yahoo. soon google is going o be next. then bill gates will have so much money that he then buy all the 3rd world countries and turn them into vacation spots. and in the end he will buy the us and sell it to china in trade for a house on the moon. were tiger woods and his centar-raptor girlfriends will eat his butt-nuggets until they turn into man-flies.

This doesn't just go for google, but for every large company, like oil companies, car manufacturers, China..
They all control a certain part or aspect of our everyday life, that anyone of them could screw the entire economy over.

the thing is about google, they pretty much know everything about us. when you use google, my guess is they build a personalized profile on you to optimize advertising profits and more accurate search results. oracle, if they wanted to, could just shut down pretty much every one of our computer based appliances from car's nav system, to phones, to computers.

Java's just a language. And it would be impossible for them to somehow modify the language in a magical way for all Java-based anything to magically tune into a magical frequency that sends it commands to do things. And if somehow they did manage to fucking pull that off, they deserve to rule the world.
Google, however, could easily do absolutely anything they want. F3ar, it's not about them not actually doing anything to you, it's that they could. Obviously they'd have no intent to kill a random person. All advantages aside, the sheer amount of money Google can obtain if it needs to is enough to buy anything off of anyone in the world. Now, when you consider the amount of information and resources Google already has at its disposal, it becomes a lot easier.
By the way, we're one in billions.

He's right you know. They are slowly getting to the point where they have as much as Microsoft, if not already.
But controlling the world is a bit much, there are legal entities protecting our rights.
