the clock is basically this thing that controls how much power your CPU will take in. overclock means that you increase the clock ratio in order for the CPU to take in more power and force it to run faster.
that is basically it.

"All of that power" isn't really fitting. A lot of new stuff coming out is too advanced for the parts a lot of people still have, overclocking can help dramatically in bridging the gap.
