I'm not trying to patronize, but I think this is only impressive for those that live in or around your area. I would make roughly a 1000 dollars if I worked full time for two weeks. Then again, shit here is probably a lot more expensive than where you live. Just to point some of the costs out:
Renting a small apartment here would cost about 800 dollars a month. Food and drinks cost about 150 dollars a month. The gas, electricity, TV, internet, phonebill cost about 120 dollars. Uni costs 200 dollars a month. That right there comes to about 1270 dollars already.

Yes, the main difference is on rent though. However is still not impressive and it sucks compared to North America on terms of job possibilities and incomes but most people don't care.

Or else they'd have paid me like 1000-1200.

If something is the current standard, what is there to care about? Regardless of what other regions of the world make, if you can live comfortably with the amount you make where you live, it doesn't really matter. I believe people in the UK make slightly more than us Dutchies, but I don't really care either. I don't live in the UK.
