Who here plays on godcraft?
And can you explain it for me?
Do I need to dig into tunnelsystems to find everything I need, just like in singleplayer?
Do I get to choose the spot where my house is by myself?
Are there monsters during night?

I'm confused. But I'm bored of singleplayer so I'm thinking about giving this a try.

The SMP if not updated at the same rate as the SP, so various things does not work (Like the mine-cart for example). In most servers you will have to find what you need (Not sure about Godcraft). And often it is just FFA when is comes to property.

Who here plays on godcraft? IIRC: Monkeys, Elpacco, Myself and.. I think Oblivious does too, I'm not too sure though. I may have forgotten a few others.

And can you explain it for me? It's basically a big Minecraft multi-player server. We have minimal griefers (like, none), lots of anti-grief tools. So far no griefing has been going on without the culprit being found, and action taken on him. Our moderators are very active.

Do I need to dig into tunnelsystems to find everything I need, just like in singleplayer? Yep. We don't spawn any sort of blocks, not even if you're victim of grief. This allows for realistic trading. Some people do build community chests, though, where people can deposit stuff they don't need anymore, but which others may find valuable.

Do I get to choose the spot where my house is by myself? Yes. We do have some rules against building too close to other projects, and how much land you can claim at once - but I don't believe that would be a problem for you. (:
I recommend getting a plot in one of the big cities in progress, so that you would always be near a potential player-owned shop if you're in need of materials.

Are there monsters during night? No. I'm not exactly sure if Notch borked the monster spawners or not, but they used to work at least. Elpacco and I were building a big, multi-layered spleef arena, with skeletons and spiders lead to the bottom of the arena through water tunnels. This project was obviously aborted due to the recent server/map restart, though. I'm not sure if we're going to start it up again, as it was pretty lucky that we found two monster spawners relatively close to each other.

Of course, once monsters are actually implemented in the game along with health, pvp etc. we will of course add it. I actually think Kane has plans for a PVP arena or something.

Read that page and realize that it isn't worth it and that the Admin is an idiot. Who the fuck earns 50 bucks an hour in the kind of community that Minecraft embraces.
