Must record video in 1080p, I'm not looking for any specific megapixel but if it records 1080p then it's probably >8mp and that's fine.
I'd prefer SLR I guess, but I'm open to anything that's under $250. |

Under $250? Don't think you'll get one in 1080p then, unless it's a cheap brand with shit quality. My sony cost $180 - 14MP and 720p video. _________________

Really?
I found the Toshiba Camileo S20 which records 1080p and 5mp stills for about $120...
And I may be ignorant here but, isn't 1080p the same quality anywhere? |

SLR? Under 250? I don't think so. Body only will probably be a little close to that.
You can get a Canon EOS 500D. Records in 720p and 1080p. Although, the videos are a bit sketchy.. I'm sure any camcorder will record a lot better. Unless you record in 720p than the videos are decent. 1080p, not so much.
I'm getting my Nikon D5000 next week! Pumped. _________________

Forget SLR then, I guess SLR + 1080p is ridiculous, but anything will do. |

Also, when it comes to encoding 1080p, there are different profiles, some faster than others resulting in poor quality. Besides, I bet you can't even spot the difference between 720p and 1080p if scaled properly. So, go for one with better optics and 720p recording.
I bought a Canon Ixus 1x0 IS for my mom and it's great! It was like 150eur or something. |
