So I'm making a video for an assignment at school. In this video I will be interrogating myself, and I wanted to attempt to replicate a scene in V for Vendetta.
Hopefully it will be easier to make this in something like after effects/vegas/premier pro than to actually use a bunch of lighting while I film.

The effect I'm wanting to make is to create a silhouette to go on top of the actual video, creating something like this:

So if anyone knows how to do this/what program to do it in (I have minimal experience in video editing), it would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

you need:
a video editing and composing software (( I'm experienced with Adobe After Effects ))

a green screen (( or a white sheet but you gotta wear dark clothes. the thing is that you need to contrast ))

simple keying teory. (( keying is cutting what you need from the layers in this scenario cuting out the white screen so you end up with only yourself ))

- of course green screen is if you plan to move around in the siluete, if it is just a still you can do the keying manually with masks

here is a very basic tutorial for that

Ideally I would like to do it like that.
But if I end up leaving this to the last minute, like I normally do. Is it possible to do it with something like a static silhouette of myself made in photoshop? I'm assuming this would be a fair bit easier than an actual video silhouette.

yeah just make the png with transparency with photoshop and then put it in a layer on top of the video with after effects.

I think movie maker can do that too though.. I dont know .. I never used movie maker in my life.

AE can handle vector masks. If you're going to be moving your camera around, you're going to have to do some rotoscoping (i.e. individually moving each vector point per frame) which can be rather time consuming.
