I'm looking for some new earbuds to buy. Max price is like $35-40.

Only $24.99 after a promo code.

If you have any other suggestions, they can be from any site or any store in the Chicago area.

They don't have to be professional grade or gaming earbuds, I just want a nice pair that sounds a whole lot nicer than the generic Apple ones.

I listen to a wide range of music, from Indie to progressive alternative to regular alternative to some other stuff.

i.e. Arctic Monkeys to Fall of Troy to Muse to RHCP to Sublime to SoaD to Nirvana to O.A.R. to The Mars Volta. I've always found it hard to classify my musical preferences.

JCV mashmallow would offer just about the same sound quality. You aren't getting much with that price range, nor a audiophile to hear the difference.
CX300 if you into bass and shit.
screw earbuds, go for ultraportable headphones like ATH EM7, Koss KSC, etc

Atomic bass by radius I heard have incredible bass for earbuds if you want bass in your earbuds. 28 USD.

YOU HAVE TO BREAK THESE IN. Play them at a loud volume for about 24 hours and they will sound much better. Nice warranty too, if you register the product at their website and go to the warranty section and provide proof of purchase, they sent you a new pair, no questions asked (and you don't even have to ship back the one's you already have)

Of course, if you want to spend less, get the J2's or even the J1's, but they will sound different. The j2's are still decent, but the J1's are good for a budget.

Another option is the JVC marshmellow's (more of a budget choice).

I've had good experience with seinheisers cx300, really good company and the headphones are really well built.

If you want to spend a little more, shure e2c's are well worth the money

I would also google with the keywords "head-fi budget earbuds", the forum is centered around audiophiles, and they really know what they're talking about..

lastly, don't get skull candy's, they suck massive donkey dicks.
