Ugh.
I've managed to code a working register and log in script, then a basic account page, but now I need to somehow build a trade function and I'm totally lost.

Should be pretty easy...
In the 'users' table, you could have a row for the currency. Just have a textbox for the value to send, and a button to send it. Using PHP, you could subtract the amount from the sender, and add the amount to the receiver. Blah blah blah, just adding and subtracting with a textbox and a button.

Safer to divide currency from information.
And currency might be something else than just one numerical value.
If the trading happens between two humans with a possible delay between acceptance of both, you'll need to create a buffer.
For example, once terms have been set, one person accepts and the terms get stored in the buffer.
If the other person accepts, the buffer gets checked if it already exists, if it does the terms get executed, if it doesn't, it gets added.
But yeah, depends on what exactly you're trading and in which timeframe.
