|
|
So, I decided to abandon installation of my Windows 7 Ultimate from a DVD.
I saw how Windows Anytime Upgrade works.
Since I don't have a working USB, and I am very antisocial IRL, I decided to buy Anytime Upgrade key instead of a External USB DVD ROM.
So, I have a few more questions:
1.) Will Anytime Upgrade affect my drivers? I am running an Acer Aspire One D260 with pre-installed Win7Starter. Will I re-download drivers once I did the upgrade?
2.) Some internet forum told me that you can use your OEM's SLP key instead of buying an Upgrade key. Is this true? And how can I know my OEM's SLP key?

When I used Anytime Upgrade I didn't have to reinstall my drivers.
I'm not sure about #2

Windows 7 Anytime upgrade unlike Vista's Anytime upgrade is that Vista requires the users to insert a "Vista Anytime Upgrade" disc. This disc is obtained when you purchase the upgrade pack.
Windows 7 on the other hand does not required that disc. When you launch the Anytime upgrade wizard and type in your new product key, the OS just enables the features according to the new OS that you bought.
e.g. Bought Home Premium
Wizard turns on features part of Home Premium
The OEM SLP is a full version single license used by manufactures as they sell their systems. Many of us buy this is due to its cheap price than retail copies, but the license as for OEM is they're tied to your machine and not to the user. These types of disc contains both the Full install and Upgrade path, but it's the product key that determines whether a upgrade is allowed or not.
On another note, if one day you have to restore your system back to factory settings. It will go back to Win7 starter and then you have to again retype in the upgrade key.
