I put together a computer about two years or so ago, and I wanted to know if it would be worth it to upgrade, or would i be better off buying a whole new system? My budget at the moment is $1000 CAD and I was hoping to wait for something like boxing day 'till i bought it.

Current build

Video Card
Power Supply
Mobo
RAM
Processor
Hard Drive
Cd Drive
Case

If you must, I'd say upgrade, you can upgrade your motherboard, cpu and ram at less than half or half of your budget and have nearly twice the computer you have now.

Most of us when we have money in our wallets, we tend to have this itch to spend it on upgrading and so forth.

Your system is fine the way it is and upgrading won't be worth it as 775 quad cores are pretty expensive, changing to them 1156 Core i series isn't worth it as Sandy Bridge will come out soon making current 1156 obsolete.

Sandy Bridge will be called Core i series Gen 2
e.g. current: Core i7 920
next gen: Core i7"2"600K

Do you know when Sandy Bridge CPUs are coming out?

I'm planning to build a computer around Boxing Day this year as well, so I want to know if I'll be able to snag that up.

Edit - Nvm, I googled. Q1 2011. Shit. So now I'm stuck wondering whether or not I should build a rig again.

Why would you want to upgrade a pc that is already fine? I mean, there are more things you can spend your money on.

Until modern programs run slow.

Put it in the bank. When I first got my job, I didn't have a bank account, and spent almost all of my weekly income on the odd PC part, women, drugs etc.

Then I got a bank and was surprised how quickly the money stacked up.
